Rescue Diver Ready

Our story

Don't Just Dive. Be Rescue Diver Ready.

Every diver loves the perfect dive. Clear water, calm seas, everyone back on the boat smiling. But every experienced diver knows there is another side to diving... and that is the side we are built for.

The other side

The moments nobody likes to talk about

The tired diver at the surface. The buddy who suddenly becomes stressed. The missing-diver drill nobody has practiced in years. The moment something feels wrong and everyone looks around wondering who knows what to do next.

Rescue Diver Ready exists for exactly those moments. Not because we expect things to go wrong, but because we believe every diver should be prepared if they do.

Why we exist

Most dive centers offer rescue training. We built a company around it.

Rescue Diver Ready was founded by Natalee and Donovan van Staden with one clear vision: to make every diver a Rescue Ready Diver through the PADI Rescue Diver Course. We believe it is one of the most important courses a diver will ever take. It changes the way you dive, the way you think, and the way you look after your buddy, your team, and the dive community around you.

For many dive centers, Rescue Diver is one course on a long list. For us, it is the reason we exist. We do not just want divers to earn another certification card. We want them to become calmer, sharper, more confident, and genuinely ready for the "what if."

More than 11 years ago, taking the Rescue Diver course changed the way Natalee approached diving. It made her more aware, more prepared, and a better dive buddy. With a background in behavior change, she recognized that preparedness isn't something you earn once. It's something you maintain. That belief led her to found Rescue Diver Ready, with a simple mission: Make Every Diver a Rescue Ready Diver™.

Real preparedness

Ready for the what if

What if your buddy becomes distressed underwater? What if a diver surfaces exhausted and panicked? What if someone needs emergency oxygen, and you are the person closest enough to help? These are not questions designed to scare divers. They are the questions responsible divers should be willing to train for.

Our training brings together the PADI Rescue Diver Course, Emergency First Response, and Emergency Oxygen Provider training. Because real preparedness is not one skill. It is awareness, prevention, first aid, oxygen administration, communication, teamwork, and clear decision-making under pressure. That is what makes a Rescue Ready Diver.

Our approach

Training that feels real

As a PADI Master Instructor and Director of Training, Donovan van Staden leads our standards with one belief at the center of everything: a certification does not make a diver ready. Training does.

"A certification doesn't make a diver ready... training does. Our responsibility is to ensure every diver leaves us with skills they can trust, confidence they can rely on, and the ability to act decisively when someone's safety depends on it."
Donovan van StadenDonovan van StadenFounder, PADI Master Instructor & Director of Training

Our courses are practical, hands-on, and built around the realities of diving. We focus on the moments that matter: recognizing problems early, helping a tired or panicked diver, responding to emergencies at the surface, managing stress, using emergency oxygen, working as a team, and staying calm when the situation is not.

We believe divers learn best when training feels real, supportive, and memorable. Not rushed. Not robotic. Not just checking boxes.

The bigger picture

Training, research, technology, preparedness

Rescue Diver Ready is about more than teaching a course. We are building a safer dive community by aligning with partners who each bring something important to diver safety.

  • PADI. The globally recognized Rescue Diver training framework that helps divers develop awareness, confidence, and practical rescue skills.

  • DAN. A leader in dive safety, dive medicine, accident research, emergency assistance, and diver education... helping the community understand the effects of diving on the body and how to reduce risk.

  • Garmin. Innovation through dive technology, including the Descent dive computer series, inReach satellite communication, and the Descent buoy... supporting better decisions and communication above and below the surface.

A safer dive community is not built by one course, one product, or one organization. It is built when the right people, training, tools, and knowledge come together with a shared purpose, and our role is to bring those pieces together for real divers in real situations.

The difference

Why train with Rescue Diver Ready?

Because rescue training is not something we squeeze into a course schedule. It is our focus. It is what we eat, sleep, and breathe. Most dive centers can teach you the PADI Rescue Diver Course. We built Rescue Diver Ready to help you become the diver people trust when it matters most: the calm one, the prepared one, the capable one... the one who knows what to do when everyone else is asking, "What now?"

We do not just certify Rescue Divers. We create Rescue Ready Divers.

Every diver we train makes the community safer. That is the movement we are building... one diver, one course, one safer dive community at a time.

The team

Built by divers who care deeply about this.

Natalee brings the vision. Donovan brings the training quality and standards. Senior Instructor Scott Simpson brings the experience and patience that help divers grow in confidence. Together we are building a community of divers who care about more than their next dive... their buddies, their families, their dive shops, and their sport.
