Rescue training is where divers stop thinking only about their own dive and start thinking like a teammate. But before you sign up, it helps to know what's required — and what we can help you complete quickly.
What is the PADI Rescue Diver course?
The PADI Rescue Diver course teaches prevention, awareness, and response skills. It's hands-on, scenario-based, and widely considered the biggest confidence-builder in recreational diving.
Common prerequisites (and what they mean)
- A qualifying certification level: many divers come in after Open Water with the right preparation; others prefer to do Advanced first.
- Comfort in open water: basic buoyancy, navigation, and general confidence in your gear.
- CPR/First Aid: Rescue training typically requires a current CPR/First Aid credential, often completed through EFR.
Do you need Advanced Open Water first?
Not always. Some divers take Rescue after Open Water with additional coaching and a structured plan. Others do Advanced first to build more time in the ocean.
The goal is the same: show up ready to learn, not overwhelmed.
Don't forget CPR/First Aid (and why it matters)
Rescue skills and first aid go together. If you're training to help someone, you want the full toolkit.
Ask about bundling Rescue + EFR + O2 Provider so you're fully prepared.
